Solskjaer: 'I expected United inconsistency'

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer says that he expected his side to produce inconsistent results at this stage of their development.

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has insisted that he has not been left surprised by the club's recent inconsistent results.

Despite having spent over £140m on three new players during the summer, United have only recorded eight points from a possible 18 during the opening weeks of the new Premier League season.

The run of form has led to criticism of the North-West giants, although Solskjaer has claimed that he never expected the arrival of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire and Daniel James to act as 'a quick fix'.

When quizzed on whether this is what he expected from his squad, the Norwegian told Sky Sports: "Yes. Yes. I never said this was going to be a quick-fix job. It's step after step after step.

"I think we've shown, and with the money we've spent, the big money if you like, has been on the two defenders. We've been one of the more solid teams defensively, if you look at how little we've conceded in chances.

"Yes, we've conceded goals we shouldn't have. But the next bit now is moving forward up the pitch."

Ahead of their meeting with Arsenal on Monday night, United sit in 11th position in the top-flight standings.
