Bastian Schweinsteiger: 'I'm here to win titles'

New Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger says that he joined the club in order to win titles, despite a two-year drought for the Red Devils.

Bastian Schweinsteiger has declared that he joined Manchester United to win titles following his arrival from Bayern Munich.

The 30-year-old midfielder completed his move to Old Trafford earlier this week on a three-year deal for a fee thought to be around £14m, reuniting with former Bayern boss Louis van Gaal in the process.

United have failed to seriously challenge for honours since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club in 2013, but Schweinsteiger, who has won the World Cup, Champions League and eight Bundesliga titles during his career, believes that he can help restore the glory days to the Red Devils.

"I am very happy to be here and to play for Man Utd. It is a big honour. It's a new step in my life," he told reporters at his unveiling.

"I want to win titles, it's easy. Manchester United is used to that and I am too, so that's my goal. It's good [Van Gaal and I] know each other. We had a great time [at Bayern]. It was very good for my development.

"We won titles, we won the treble and it was not always like that years ago. We know each other but I am here for Man Utd because it's a big club and I look forward to playing at Old Trafford."

United will kick off the new Premier League season at home to Tottenham Hotspur in the early match on August 8.
