Peter Schmeichel backs Manchester United's Luke Shaw 'pursuit'

Peter Schmeichel believes that Luke Shaw is an "attractive" option for Manchester United in this summer's transfer market.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel believes that Southampton left-back Luke Shaw is the right type of player that the club should be "chasing".

Reports have emerged claiming that United, who are still without a permanent manager, want to wrap up a £27m deal for Shaw before the start of the World Cup on June 12.

The 18-year-old will be on the plane to Brazil with the England squad after being preferred to Ashley Cole.

"The prospect of [Shaw] joining would be a very attractive one," Schmeichel told The Express. "Shaw is one of the most promising players in the Premier League and he's the sort of player United should be chasing."

Meanwhile, Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal remains coy on reports that he is on the verge of being appointed United's new manager.
