David Moyes: 'Wayne Rooney not bothered by Palace abuse'

Manchester United manager David Moyes insists that the Crystal Palace fans that allegedly threw coins at Wayne Rooney will be cheering him at the World Cup this summer.

Manchester United manager David Moyes has stressed that Wayne Rooney will be not be fazed by abuse that he received from Crystal Palace fans on Saturday.

Some Eagles supporters appeared to throw coins at the England international striker, perhaps in protest of his new £300,000-per-week Old Trafford contract.

He even needed to be protected by Selhurst Park stewards as he prepared to take a corner, but Moyes has insisted that the same Palace fans that were involved in the incident will be fully behind Rooney, who scored in a 2-0 victory for United, when he represents England at the World Cup this summer.

"I would have thought all these supporters will be cheering for him in three months," he told reporters.

"It happens. He's a top player and I don't think it bothered Wayne."

Rooney's new five-and-a-half-year deal commits him to the Red Devils until 2019.
