Pep Guardiola bats off Jose Mourinho complaints

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola suggests that Jose Mourinho is too focused on the refereeing performance from Manchester United's 2-1 derby defeat at Old Trafford.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has accused Jose Mourinho of focusing too much on the performance of the referee during his side's 2-1 win over Manchester United at Old Trafford this afternoon.

Mourinho claimed that Michael Oliver should have awarded his side a penalty for a challenge on Ander Herrera which instead earned the United midfielder a yellow card for diving late on.

However, Guardiola pointed to his side's dominant possession statistics as proof that they deserved their victory, which takes them 11 points clear of their local rivals at the top of the Premier League table.

"Last season it was the same – we won here and it was the referee. Today as well. Yesterday he spoke about the referee," the Spaniard told Sky Sports News.

"We are an honest team. We had 75% ball possession, which means we wanted to play. We came here and did that."

The win is City's 14th in a row in the Premier League, setting a new single-season record for the competition.
