Chants mocking the loss of lives marred Leeds United's Carling Cup tie with Manchester United last night.

The Carling Cup tie between Leeds United and Manchester United last night has been overshadowed by the songs being sung in and outside of Elland Road.

Some visiting United fans unveiled a banner in the away section which read 'Istanbul', while the chant of the same word could clearly be heard on several occasions.

It acted as a direct reference to the fatal stabbings of two Leeds supporters prior to a UEFA Cup tie against Galatasaray in Turkey in April 2000.

Videos have also emerged showing the home fans making references to the Munich air disaster in 1958 where several United players lost their lives.

The Football Association is expected to review the situation.

Man United won the match 3-0.
