Manchester United's Wayne Rooney: Recovery "going as planned"

Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney says that his recovery from a knee injury is on course, despite recent reports to the contrary.

Wayne Rooney has dismissed the suggestion that he has suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee injury.

Recent speculation claimed that the complaint, which he suffered on February 13, was now threatening his chances of representing England at Euro 2016.

However, the Manchester United captain has revealed that he is in line to return to action after the upcoming international break.

"It is going as planned. It is going how we first thought. It is going well so hopefully it won't be too long now," the Manchester Evening News quotes the 30-year-old as saying.

"I don't know for definite but after the international break. Obviously I will miss the England games, but it shouldn't be too long after that.

"It is not too bad. We are being a bit cautious. It is a difficult one to try and push back. If I try and push and be involved now it could cause more damage. So we are being cautious."

United's first game after the internationals is against Rooney's former club Everton on April 3.
