Manchester United team news: Injury, suspension list vs. Liverpool

Sports Mole rounds up Manchester United's latest injury and suspension news ahead of Sunday's Premier League clash with Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Manchester United head into their Premier League showdown with Liverpool needing to end their poor run of form in all competitions.

Before the international break, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer watched his side fail to win five matches in a row during normal time, with a penalty-shootout triumph over Rochdale in the EFL Cup representing their only success.

United succumbed tamely at Newcastle United in their most recent fixture, leaving Solskjaer to hope for better news from the treatment room ahead of welcoming the top-flight pacesetters on Sunday.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up the latest injury and suspension news ahead of the showdown at Old Trafford.

David de Gea

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Groin
Possible return date: October 20 (vs. Liverpool)

While not completely ruling out De Gea this weekend, Solskjaer has suggested that the groin injury sustained during Spain's encounter with Sweden on Tuesday night is severe enough to keep the stopper out of action this weekend.

Jesse Lingard

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Hamstring
Possible return date: October 20 (vs. Liverpool)

Before the international break, Solskjaer suggested that Lingard would be ready to return from a minor hamstring problem against Liverpool. With the playmaker having been left out of the England squad, he should be available at the weekend.

Anthony Martial

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Thigh
Possible return date: October 20 (vs. Liverpool)

While Martial had been in contention to face Newcastle, Solskjaer ultimately opted to take no risks with the forward. However, the France international should be available to take his place in the squad this weekend.

Eric Bailly

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Having sustained a serious knee injury during pre-season, Bailly has been ruled out of action until the end of the year.

Paul Pogba

Status: Out
Type of injury: Foot
Possible return date: October 24 (vs. Partizan Belgrade)

Pogba has spent part of the international break in the Middle East, where he has been attempting to overcome a foot problem. However, Solskjaer has revealed that this weekend's fixture has come too soon for the Frenchman.

Mason Greenwood

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Back
Possible return date: October 20 (vs. Liverpool)

Greenwood had been expected to spend the international break with England Under-21s, only to sustain a back injury last week. It remains unclear whether the teenager will be available for the meeting with the Merseyside giants.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Illness
Possible return date: October 20 (vs. Liverpool)

Wan-Bissaka has missed the last three games in all competitions due to tonsillitis. However, given the two-week break, the right-back is expected to be back in the squad against Liverpool.

Victor Lindelof

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Back
Possible return date: October 20 (vs. Liverpool)

Having suffered a back problem against AZ, a consequence of playing on an artificial pitch, Lindelof was subsequently ruled out against Newcastle. However, providing that he suffers no ill effects while on international duty with Sweden, the centre-back should be available on Sunday.

Diogo Dalot

Status: Major doubt
Type of injury: Groin
Possible return date: October 20 (vs. Liverpool)

Dalot is currently carrying a groin strain, which could lead to the right-back sitting out this weekend. However, the Portuguese will hope to return before the end of the month.

Phil Jones

Status: Minor doubt
Type of injury: Unknown
Possible return date: October 20 (vs. Liverpool)

While the nature of Jones's injury has not been disclosed, the centre-back is likely to be available for selection this weekend.

Timothy Fosu-Mensah

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Fosu-Mensah is still weeks away from being considered for a place in the squad as he continues to recover from a knee injury, sustained while on loan at Fulham.

United have no players who are serving a suspension ahead of the game on Sunday afternoon.
