Louis van Gaal not surprised by Manchester United's FA Cup failure

Louis van Gaal says that he is not surprised by Manchester United's failure to win the FA Cup since 2004.

Louis van Gaal has claimed that it is not a surprise that Manchester United have not won the FA Cup in the last decade.

The English giants last lifted the trophy in the 2003-04 season when they overcame Millwall 3-0 in the final at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff.

Since then, the Red Devils have been undone by a handful of teams, including Portsmouth, Leeds United and Reading.

When asked about United's recent lack of success in the competition, Van Gaal told reporters: "We saw that last year when we played Yeovil and Cambridge.

"Every match is difficult to win, no matter what level you have to compete with - that's why Manchester United did not win it for a long time, I think.

"I cannot judge the way they have lost in the last few years, but last year we lost against Arsenal, and they were the winners."

United will kick off this season's FA Cup campaign against Sheffield United at Old Trafford on Saturday.
