Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon pays tribute to Manchester United

Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon concedes that his team were not good enough to beat Manchester United in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Monday night.

Shrewsbury Town boss Micky Mellon has claimed that his side "gave it everything" against Manchester United in the FA Cup on Monday, but were ultimately beaten by the better team.

Goals from Chris Smalling, Juan Mata and Jesse Lingard made it a comfortable progression for the Premier League club, who advanced into the quarter-finals courtesy of a 3-0 win.

Mellon has paid tribute to the quality of his team's opponents and also refused to be drawn on Mata's strike, which was controversial due to the runs of three Man United players.

"First and foremost. The quality of Man United was fantastic. I couldn't have asked for more from the players. We must congratulate Man United," Mellon told BT Sport.

"I have not seen the second goal back. We gave it everything, but we came up against a team with unbelievable quality. We move on now."

Shrewsbury's focus will now be on Saturday's League One clash against Colchester United.
