Manchester City midfielder Mohammed Abu joins Frankfurt on a six-month loan deal.

Mohammed Abu has left Manchester City to join German club Frankfurt on a six-month loan deal.

The 20-year-old Ghana international will link up with the Bundesliga outfit following the conclusion of the African Cup of Nations.

Should both parties agree, there is a clause in the transfer which states that Frankfurt can extend the loan move until 2013.

"He is certainly not yet the same as a very big signing, but a great talent," said Frankfurt sporting director Bruno Hubner.

"[The signing of Abu] is a first attempt in the framework of our partnership with Manchester City."

Abu joined City in 2010 from Sporting Club Accra.
