Manchester City are reportedly prepared to make Southampton defender Luke Shaw the world's most expensive full-back ever.
Shaw is considered as England's long-term successor to Ashley Cole and a host of top clubs, including Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United, have registered interests in the highly-rated 18-year-old.
City are well aware that their Premier League rivals are also keen to acquire Shaw and, according to the Daily Mail, the title favourites would be prepared to pay £30m to win the race for the player's signature should he become available this month.
Brazil right-back Daniel Alves is currently the most expensive full-back on the planet, having joined Barcelona from Sevilla for £29.5m in 2008.
