Manchester City announce that midfielder Douglas Luiz has re-joined Girona on a season-long loan deal.

Girona have completed the season-long loan signing of Manchester City midfielder Douglas Luiz.

City boss Pep Guardiola had wanted to use Luiz as backup in defensive midfield with the Premier League champions, having failed to sign an established player in the position over the summer.

However, the 20-year-old was unable to gain a work permit, leaving City with little option but to send the Brazilian back out on loan.

Celtic had been linked with a move for the player, but City have sent Luiz back out to sister club Girona to join teammates Aleix Garcia and Patrick Roberts.

Luiz made one start and 14 substitute appearances in La Liga during the last campaign.
