Sven-Goran Eriksson: 'Manuel Pellegrini is heading for the sack'

Former Manchester City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson fears that Manuel Pellegrini is on the verge of losing his job with the Premier League side.

Former Manchester City boss Sven-Goran Eriksson has said that current manager Manuel Pellegrini is at risk of losing his job.

The Chilean has come under fire following a poor showing this season, which has seen City fail to reach the quarter-final stage of three cup competitions and trail Chelsea by 12 points in the title race.

Eriksson says that he would not be surprised if the City hierarchy were considering a change of manager.

"I am sure they are not happy, not happy at all," the former England boss told the Daily Star. "I do not know if they are going to change or not, but I would not be surprised.

"Nobody would be surprised because if you invest so much money they expect to fight for the title in England and expect to go a very long way in the Champions League and unfortunately, this season they haven't done that.

"And who is going to pay the price, as usual, the manager."

City lifted the Premier League title and League Cup last season in Pellegrini's first campaign in charge.
