Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany: "It was a tough game"

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany takes the positives from his team's 1-1 draw at Newcastle United in the Premier League on Tuesday night.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has branded his team's 1-1 draw at Newcastle United on Tuesday night 'not a bad result'.

Man City entered the clash at St James' Park on the back of three straight Premier League victories and looking to consolidate a top-four position, but a battling Newcastle side secured a share of the spoils on home soil.

Kompany, who returned from a calf problem to captain his team, has also paid tribute to Sergio Aguero, who grabbed his 100th Premier League goal with a 14th-minute opener on Tyneside.

"It was a tough game, they are playing for their lives. You wouldn't call it a bad draw. We need to win as many games as we can but I have seen a good Newcastle team tonight. It was a hostile environment and not a bad result," Kompany told BBC Sport.

"The hardest part of coming back from injury is getting back to the level of the Premier League. The more games you play the better you will feel. Overall it was a positive day.

"Sergio Aguero has been a major player for us and there are not enough words to describe how important he is. We just hope he can carry on his career like this, it's hard to come across a player who can have such an impact on games like he does."

Man City remain third in the Premier League table on 61 points - five clear of fifth-placed Manchester United, who will host Crystal Palace on Wednesday night.
