Vincent Kompany: 'Manchester City can't afford any more slip-ups'

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany admits that his side cannot afford any more slip-ups this season if they are to stand any chance of winning the title.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has admitted that his side cannot afford any more slip-ups in the title race this season.

City missed the chance to close the gap on the three teams above them in the table when they were comfortably beaten 3-0 by Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday.

The result leaves them ten points adrift of leaders Leicester City, but with Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal also losing in midweek, Kompany believes that things could have been worse for his side.

"We can't make any more mistakes but I didn't expect all the other teams to lose. It is an awkward season - good for the fans but you can't predict anything can you? If there is one guarantee for this season it is nothing is sure," he is quoted as saying by PA.

"If you look at this result it could have been worse, although we are not happy with the result or the performance. But at the same time it is a tough place for us to come. We are not going to draw too many conclusions from this game.

"We will see what is happening at the weekend; Arsenal and Spurs are playing against each other, we are at home to Aston Villa. We need to get the three points and maybe Leicester will drop some points."

City, who have lost their last three league games, will look to return to winning ways at home to rock-bottom Aston Villa on Saturday.
