Manchester City winger Leroy Sane has been ruled out for the foreseeable future after suffering ankle ligament damage.
On Sunday afternoon, Sane was cynically fouled by Cardiff City defender Joe Bennett during the FA Cup fourth-round tie between the two sides and it resulted in the German international being substituted at half time.
Manager Pep Guardiola was unhappy with the nature of the challenge and suggested that the 22-year-old would be sidelined for a number of weeks, and City have now confirmed that the player suffered significant damage to his left ankle.
Sane has enjoyed a stellar campaign for City, with seven goals and 12 assists coming from 27 appearances in the Premier League and Champions League.
Bennett has since apologised for his part in the incident while insisting that he had only intended to trip Sane.
