Liverpool are reportedly stepping up their pursuit of Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar after Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Virgil van Dijk will be out for over a month.

Liverpool are reportedly set to step up their pursuit of Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar with Virgil van Dijk set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Jurgen Klopp confirmed that the Dutch international is set to miss "more than a month" after picking up a severe hamstring injury in the 3-1 loss to Brentford on Monday.

Reports in Italy claim that the Nerazzurri may be willing to accept a bid of €40m (£35.2m) for Skriniar.

The report states that the Italian club could 'feel compelled' to sit down with the Reds to listen to the offer as the player is out of contract in the summer.

Inter CEO Giuseppe Marotta has previously confirmed that the club have offered the Slovakian defender the best financial deal that they could, in an attempt to avoid him leaving on a free transfer.

The January transfer window will be Inter's last chance to cash in on their prized asset, but it would be a huge blow on the pitch, as the defender has made 22 appearances in all competitions, conceding just 14 goals.
