Jamie Carragher says that Fernando Torres failed to give his best for Liverpool once he had asked to leave, but feels that Luis Suarez won't do the same.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has no doubts that Luis Suarez will continue to give his best for the club should he remain at Anfield next season - unlike Fernando Torres.

The Uruguayan has stated his desire to leave the Merseysiders following a number of high-profile incidents that have marred his time in the Premier League so far, which has alerted Real Madrid to his availability.

While Carragher feels that Torres failed to give his all after asking to leave the Reds, he believes that they will have no such problems with Suarez.

"I do believe that Suarez is a slightly different character to Fernando Torres," Carragher told Sky Sports News. "The thing about keeping unhappy players is an issue because we had that experience with Torres and keeping him wasn't the right thing to do. Torres wasn't the same player for about 18 months and that's certainly what you don't want.

"There were times, I believe, when Torres wasn't giving his best on the pitch for Liverpool and that is why it was a mistake to keep him.

"I don't think that will happen with Suarez, simply because of the player he is, but it is something you must be aware of. Obviously, it is a difficult situation if a player has had his head turned, but someone at the club would have to deal with it."

Suarez netted 30 goals for Liverpool last season.
