Daniel Sturridge: I'm not Liverpool's "main main"

Daniel Sturridge claims that he is not the "main man" at Liverpool, despite Luis Suarez's transfer to Barcelona.

Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge has played down the responsibility placed on his shoulders in the wake of Luis Suarez's exit.

The 31-goal Uruguayan joined Barcelona for £75m last month, and Sturridge, who finished second to his former teammate in the Premier League scoring charts last term with 21, does not believe that he is now the "main man" at Anfield.

Speaking to Complex Magazine, the England international preferred to state the need for the whole team to contribute to make up for the PFA and FWA Player of the Season's absence.

Sturridge said: "I wouldn't say I am the main man. A lot of people seem to be saying that to me at the moment. I just look at it like this: it's a team game and I am one of the players that has to go out there and do a job.

"For me that is football, they always elevate people to be the main man, the go-to guy as they call it. I don't shy away from that. There's got to be a main man in teams, and if people are saying that it's me it's me isn't it?

"But I don't look at myself that way. I'm a very humble and normal person, and I just go out there and do the job the best that I can do it."

Sturridge was on target as the Reds beat Borussia Dortmund 4-0 at Anfield on Sunday.
