Brendan Rodgers: Australia tour a "great honour" for Liverpool

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers insists that his side's pre-season tour of Australia was a "great honour".

Brendan Rodgers has described Liverpool's pre-season visit to Australia as a "great honour" following his side's final match in the country.

The Reds, who will face a Malaysia XI later this week, followed up a 2-1 win over Brisbane Roar with a 2-0 victory over Adelaide United yesterday.

The manager told Australian publication The Roar: "To have over 100,000 supporters, over two games on the other side of the world, it tells you about the passion of the people here for the club, and the passion for football.

"It has been a great honour and I would come back here for sure as soon as we possibly could. It has been an absolute pleasure to be in Australia. For some of our people and some our staff it has been the first time. I was very lucky to come here for the first time when we were here two years ago and this trip has been equally as enjoyable.

"We leave with a heavy heart because when you play in front of supporters as we have done in the two games, it means so much. It is very humbling, how we have been received, and hopefully in a couple of years time we can be back."

Liverpool will start the new Premier League season away to Stoke City.
