Jamie Redknapp: 'Liverpool cannot afford to panic'

Jamie Redknapp insists that Liverpool cannot make any rash decisions on the future of manager Brendan Rodgers based on the outcome of the Merseyside derby.

Jamie Redknapp has said that Liverpool cannot afford to make a panicked decision regarding the future of Brendan Rodgers based on the outcome of the Merseyside derby.

Reports have suggested that the Reds will sack the 42-year-old if they lose to Everton at Goodison Park this afternoon following their underwhelming start to the campaign.

However, Redknapp is adamant the club's hierarchy should not rush into a decision at this early stage in the season based off the result of one match.

He told the Liverpool Echo: "You know it's going to be intense. When I played it was fierce, it was ferocious. It's an amazing game to play in. This one will be different to those games. It won't be as tough-tackling or as aggressive, it'll be more tactical.

"What I will say, though, is that this probably means as much as any of them. For Brendan Rodgers, if he can go and get a win there, all of a sudden Liverpool are in a great position again. They're what, five points off the top? That's nothing! It's been a mixed season, but you can't really panic yet."
