Paul Lambert: Aston Villa were "fantastic"

Paul Lambert is delighted with Aston Villa's performance against Liverpool, particularly in the first half.

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has praised his players for a "fantastic" performance in their 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Anfield.

Lambert said that he was particularly impressed with his side in the first half and felt that they deserved more than their 2-1 lead at the break.

"I thought we were outstanding," he told BBC Sport. "In the first half, we should have been out of sight. It was full of big, big performances.

"I know the threat we have got. Christian Benteke was back to his best, Ryan Bertrand was outstanding and Ron Vlaar was fantastic. I thought we were fantastic."

Villa moved up to 10th with the point.
