Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says that he is "happy" to hand starting roles to Nathaniel Clyne and Danny Ings for Saturday's Merseyside derby with Everton.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has said that he hopes Nathaniel Clyne and Danny Ings can 'have fun' on their return to the starting lineup.

Klopp has selected the duo in his team for the Merseyside derby with Everton, with both players having suffered serious injuries over the past two years.

Clyne is making his first appearance of the season after a back injury, while Ings features for the first time in a starting lineup this campaign after making eight substitute outings since recovering from a serious knee problem.

The 50-year-old told Sky Sports News: "I'm really happy for them, of course, especially Clyney - it's unbelievable how long he was out. It's another really good sign for all of us how we dealt with the situation without him, Joe [Gomez] and Trent [Alexander-Arnold] did an outstandingly good job.

"Now he's been back in training for weeks already, played two games for the U23s, so he's ready. Same for Danny, he's very excited about the opportunity.

"I don't expect perfection or rhythm, but I expect joy, excitement, having fun in a game like this, being ready to work, and they all will be."

Klopp made the decision to rest Mohamed Salah, who continues his recovery from a groin injury ahead of the second leg of the Champions League quarter-final with Manchester City.
