Thierry Henry urges Steven Gerrard to go straight into coaching

Belgium assistant manager Thierry Henry claims that Steven Gerrard will be 'forgotten about' unless he makes a swift move into the world of coaching.

Thierry Henry has warned Steven Gerrard that he cannot afford to sit still when seeking his next career move or else he risks 'being forgotten'.

The 36-year-old officially called time on his playing days on Thursday, bringing an end to a 19-year spell in the game which included stints at Liverpool and Los Angeles Galaxy.

Gerrard is now expected to take up a role in coaching, with former side Liverpool said to be interested in his services, but Henry - now assistant manager of Belgium - believes that the ex-England international must make a swift decision.

Asked by Sky Sports News if it was best to take a short break, Henry said: "No, because that's not how I was and I'm sure that's not how he is. It's better to stay connected, know what's happening, make sure people don't forget about you. People tend to forget about you.

"It's a different ball game, I'm learning that myself. You need to learn what it is to be a coach. It's totally different. He has all the attributes to do it. But it's not easy, trust me.

"As a coach, you have to deal with everyone. The press, players, staff, one guy with his ego, one guy that didn't play, deal with the training sessions, deal with the injuries."

Gerrard revealed earlier this week that he held talks with MK Dons over the vacant manager's job, but turned down the offer as he felt it was "a bit too soon" for him.
