Jordan Henderson: 'Liverpool vice captaincy won't change me'

Jordan Henderson insists that he "won't change" now that he is Liverpool vice captain.

Liverpool midfielder Jordan Henderson has insisted that he is not taking his new vice captaincy role at Anfield for granted.

The England international was named by manager Brendan Rodgers as Steven Gerrard's deputy last month following the summer departure of Daniel Agger.

The appointment comes after an inconsistent start to Henderson's Liverpool career, which almost resulted in the midfielder joining Fulham as part of a swap deal involving Clint Dempsey back in 2012.

"[The vice captaincy] won't change how I am," Henderson told the club's official magazine. "Just because I'm vice captain now doesn't mean I'm going to be captain in the future. I'm not taking anything for granted.

"The manager explained to me that he'd given the vice-captaincy a lot of consideration, but he didn't put any pressure on me. He wants me to crack on and carry on playing the way I have been for Liverpool and hopefully grow and improve again over time."

Henderson scored his first goal of the Premier League season in Liverpool's 2-1 victory over West Bromwich Albion on October 4.
