Jordan Henderson is "excited" about what the future holds for Liverpool and England teammate Joe Gomez following his strong start to the 2018-19 campaign.

Liverpool and England midfielder Jordan Henderson has backed teammate Joe Gomez to become "even better" over time.

The 21-year-old has been included in Gareth Southgate's squad for the Three Lions' matches against Spain and Switzerland following an impressive start to the 2018-19 campaign at club level.

Gomez has starred for Liverpool in the Premier League, featuring in every minute of their four-match winning run to kick off the new season.

Henderson has been left impressed by what he has seen so far, and says that he is "excited" for what the future holds.

"He's already very good but he can be even better," he is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. "He's still very young. He's still improving, still learning and there's no better place to do that than at Liverpool with the players that he's got around him and the manager.

"I'm excited for him because I know how good he can be and he's got the right mentality as well. He's very mature for his age. His feet are firmly on the ground and he can be as good as he wants to be."

Charlton Athletic academy product Gomez made his international debut for England in November 2017.
