Los Angeles Galaxy owners delighted to welcome "iconic" Steven Gerrard

Los Angeles Galaxy owners AEG are delighted to welcome "iconic and legendary" Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard after his summer move to the club was confirmed.

The owners of the Los Angeles Galaxy believe that the signing of "iconic" player Steven Gerrard reaffirms their status as the biggest club in the MLS.

It was confirmed on Wednesday that the Liverpool skipper would be joining Galaxy when he ends his 25-year association with the Reds in July.

"Steven Gerrard is an iconic and legendary player," AEG president and CEO Dan Beckerman told the club's official website on behalf of the owners.

"For the past 20 years the LA Galaxy have made an impact on soccer in North America and created a tradition with the Galaxy by signing great players and winning championships. We have built a strong foundation and AEG is committed to maintaining the Galaxy's status as North America's premier club."

Club president Chris Klein is delighted by the ambition shown by owner Philip Anschutz and his AEG group in securing the Gerrard coup.

He added: "The LA Galaxy continue to compete for championships and strive for unparalleled success each year, and signing Steven is another example of Mr Anschutz's continued commitment to the growth of soccer in Los Angeles and North America.

"We were aggressive in our pursuit of Steven and look forward to his contributions to our club both on and off the field."

Gerrard shares the Galaxy's intent to win trophies and has described himself as being "very excited" ahead of his move to the US.
