Roy Evans: 'Daniel Sturridge's return will help Mario Balotelli'

Roy Evans backs Mario Balotelli to thrive at Liverpool when Daniel Sturridge makes his comeback from injury.

Former Liverpool manager Roy Evans believes that Daniel Sturridge's return from injury will benefit Mario Balotelli.

The Italian scored in Tuesday night's 2-1 win over Swansea City to take his tally to two goals in 12 appearances.

Sturridge has been absent since August with successive thigh and calf injuries, but the ex-Reds boss thinks that the England international's comeback will lead to improved displays from Balotelli.

Evans told talkSPORT: "Sturridge's movement is great, he doesn't just stand up there. Mario is a bit static at the moment and if Daniel gets moving in and around him that could inspire Mario to greater things.

"[Balotelli's] work rate on the pitch hasn't been good enough. The one thing you must always give as a footballer is 100%

"I think the players were starting to lose a bit of trust in Mario, but scoring a goal last night will hopefully bring that back. I hope it takes him and the team forward."

Meanwhile, Sturridge has stated that he is looking forward to teaming up with Balotelli upon his return.
