Brendan Rodgers: 'England must not overuse Raheem Sterling'

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers insists that England must not overwork Raheem Sterling in their Euro 2016 qualifying games next month.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is hopeful that England will not overuse Raheem Sterling when he goes on international duty next month.

The Three Lions face San Marino and Estonia in their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign, and Rodgers feels that it is important that the Reds and England manager Roy Hodgson work together to best manage the 19-year-old's workload.

He told reporters: "It's easy just to turn around and say, 'he's 19 and can play every day of the week'. But it doesn't work like that. Human beings don't work like that.

"Roy will want the games won, but I'm sure that resting players will also be an objective. Especially when you're winning a game comfortably.

"I'm not telling the England staff how to do their jobs but hopefully they are clever enough to work with the clubs and have fit players."

Rodgers's side face Basel in their second Champions League match of the season on Tuesday.
