Nigerian striker Obafemi Martins has signed a two-year contract with Spanish side Levante.

Martins was a free agent after being released by Russian Cup winners Rubin Kazan at the end of last season.

The 27-year-old has revealed that he is excited to get the chance to play in La Liga.

He said: "The team's doing well and I hope to play with my new colleagues, I'm here now and I hope to score many goals.

"I spoke with the sporting director Manolo Salvador, and since then I've always wanted to come here, so I must thank him."

Martins is a familiar name to Premier League fans in England after spending three years at Newcastle United and a short loan spell with Birmingham City.
