Wes Morgan signs new Leicester City contract

Leicester City's Premier League-winning captain Wes Morgan signs a new three-year deal with the club.

Leicester City captain Wes Morgan has signed a new three-year deal with the club.

The 32-year-old played every minute of the Foxes' remarkable Premier League title win last season before hoisting the trophy above his head to complete arguably the most unlikely story in English football history.

Morgan became only the third outfield player, after John Terry and Gary Pallister, to be on the pitch for every minute of a title-winning campaign, and he has now committed his future to Leicester until at least 2019.

"To commit my future to Leicester City is a wonderful feeling. Everyone knows how I feel about playing for this club and with my teammates, so I'm proud to have the chance to carry on wearing the shirt long term," Morgan told the club's official website.

"Lifting that Premier League trophy was a moment I will never forget and it's still sinking in. Now we've got to give it everything to defend it as well as showing what we can do in the Champions League.

"We all know that what we've got in that dressing room is something special, so I can't wait to get the new season started with the boys so we can once again give it our best for each other and for our fantastic supporters."

Morgan joined Leicester in January 2012 and has since gone on to make 196 appearances for the club, scoring eight goals, two of which came during the title run-in last season.

The Jamaica international was named in the PFA Team of the Year for 2015-16 having led a Leicester defence that conceded just 11 Premier League goals after the turn of the year.
