Gus Poyet says that referee Lee Mason made two vital errors that cost his Brighton & Hove Albion team all three points against Leeds United.

Brighton & Hove Albion boss Gus Poyet has criticised the referee following his team's 2-2 draw with Leeds United at the Amex Stadium tonight.

The Uruguayan believes that Leeds United forward Luke Varney went to ground too easily to win a penalty under a challenger from full-back Bruno.

El-Hadji Diouf stepped up to dispatch the spot kick and draw the visitors level before half-time.

Poyet also believes that Michael Brown should have been sent off for a second bookable offence before playing a big part in Leeds's equaliser.

"The assessment is easy," Poyet told Sky Sports News. "It's one team playing football, one team going forward and another team getting lucky.

"With the first penalty, if it was one of our players I would imagine Mr Warnock would absolutely destroy our player for diving, which is disappointing.

"Second goal, their player [Michael Brown] shouldn't be on the pitch. You know, I know, the referee knows, Mr Warnock knows. [The referee] keeps a player on the pitch and then [that player] scored the equaliser. He made a big impact on the game. Saying that, it happens in football."

The Seagulls remain ninth in the Championship table.
