Los Angeles Galaxy forward Landon Donovan will miss the USA's upcoming 2014 World Cup qualifiers due to a knee injury.
The 30-year-old was initially drafted into the 24-man squad by coach Jurgen Klinsmann despite carrying a knock he suffered during Galaxy's 2-1 defeat to Real Salt Lake at home in the MLS on Saturday.
Donovan missed practice on Monday and an MRI scan has now revealed that he will not recover in time for the USA's clash with Antigua and Barbuda on Friday and Guatemala next Tuesday.
FC Dallas winger Brek Shea has also been ruled out of the two games because of an abdominal strain.
No replacements for the duo have been named yet.
