David Beckham and Robbie Keane each scored twice as Los Angeles Galaxy overcame Portland Timbers in a pulsating encounter at Jeld-Wen Field.
Portland went ahead on three minutes when Kris Boyd's right boot connected emphatically with Kalif Alhassan's drilled corner kick.
The lead lasted only 16 minutes before Beckham restored parity with a curling effort from 30 yards.
Beckham doubled his tally three minutes later with a trademark free kick before a Landon Donovan penalty and a Keane tap-in fired Galaxy into a 4-1 lead with just 28 minutes on the clock.
Kosuke Kimura pulled a goal back for Portland before half time, but Keane restored his side's three-goal advantage just after the hour mark.
Boyd concluded the scoring with a low free kick 20 minutes from time.
