Sydney FC reveal that they have started negotiations with Alessandro del Piero over a possible move to the A-League club.

Sydney FC have confirmed that the club have approached former Juventus striker Alessandro del Piero.

The Italian striker was released by Juventus earlier this summer after 17 years at the Bianconeri and has been considering a number of offers from clubs in America, Switzerland and the Middle East.

However, Sydney have revealed that the clubs are currently in talks with the 37-year-old's representatives.

The Australian club's chief executive, Tony Pignata, said: "Overnight we had two video conferences lasting about two hours discussing the possibility of bringing Alessandro del Piero to Sydney FC for the 2012-13 season.

"We spoke about football, as well as the Sydney lifestyle and the ability for him to leave a lasting legacy in the game. We presented him with what we think is a good package and we should get an answer within 48 hours."

The A-League season begins in October.
