Carlos Queiroz resigns from Iran post

Carlos Queiroz resigns as Iran manager following his team's first-round exit at the World Cup in Brazil.

Iran manager Carlos Queiroz has resigned from his post after his team's first-round exit at the World Cup.

Despite earning a point in their goalless draw against Nigeria and performing admirably in their 1-0 defeat to Argentina, Team Melli were beaten 3-1 by Bosnia-Herzegovina to finish bottom of Group F.

The 61-year-old told reporters after the game: "I did not see any commitment to extend the contract.

"I fell in love with Iran, but you can't have a marriage in which only one side wants to marry."

Queiroz has also coached Portugal and Real Madrid, and was Sir Alex Ferguson's assistant manager at Manchester United.
