Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy confident of top-six finish

Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy feels that his side will finish in the top six in the Championship this season if they maintain their recent levels of performance.

Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy is confident that his side will finish in the top six in the Championship if they continue to play like they did in their 1-1 draw against Brentford.

Daryl Murphy fired McCarthy's men ahead in the ninth minute, but the Tractor Boys were pegged back by a strike from Jonathan Douglas on Saturday afternoon.

Ipswich pressed for a second goal throughout the second half, but they spurned several good chances as they had to settle for a point at Portman Road.

McCarthy told Sky Sports News: "Their keeper made some good saves and I am delighted rather than disappointed with our performance.

"If we keep playing like that, we will win more than we lose and we will probably be in the top six.

"It is a bonkers league with Derby drawing today and Middlesbrough losing. It is going to go to the last game, the last minute."

The Tractor Boys are currently seventh in the Championship, but are just five points adrift of the automatic promotion places.
