Ipswich manager Paul Jewell blames basic mistakes for his side's 6-0 drubbing at the hands of Blackpool this afternoon.

Ipswich Town manager Paul Jewell was left rueing his side's "basic mistakes" after watching them fall to a 6-0 defeat at the hands of Blackpool.

An Aaron Cresswell own goal was all that separated the two sides until injury time of the first half, when Gary Taylor-Fletcher made it 2-0.

The second half saw four more goals, and Jewell believes that simple errors were to blame for his side's capitulation.

"It feels as bad as a 6-0 defeat can get," he said. "For the first 44 minutes we were very good and I certainly didn't see that coming at that point. We had as much possession as them but probably didn't do enough with it. The second goal was decisive; if you go into half-time at 1-0 then you never know what might happen.

"Even at 2-0, the third goal is decisive but we made too many basic mistakes. I can't blame them on us having a young side because mistakes were made by more senior players. We were caught on the counter-attack too many times. We left ourselves short in midfield and they hit us on the break time and again. It wasn't as if they had concerted amounts of possession.

"I can't take anything away from Blackpool; they were ruthless in front of goal and took their chances well. They've had the same group of players together for a long time now and you can tell in the way that they play."

Jewell's side will look to bounce back from the result when they take on Carlisle in the League Cup second round on Tuesday.
