Ipswich Town have reportedly earmarked John McGreal as a future successor to current manager Mick McCarthy.
The former Republic of Ireland coach's position at the club is not under threat, but the Portman Road hierarchy sees former Tractor Boy McGreal as a potential candidate to eventually replace him, according to the Daily Mail.
Ipswich executives are said to be impressed by McGreal's managerial feats at League Two Colchester United, where he has been plying his trade since the summer of 2016.
Colchester are currently 11th in the league table, five points away from the playoff positions, and the 45-year-old has earned a reputation for developing young talent there.
McGreal spent five years at Ipswich during his playing career, making more than 150 appearances for the club.
