Steve Bruce: 'I need assurances over Hull City future'

Hull City manager Steve Bruce suggests that his future at the club is not guaranteed despite leading them back to the Premier League.

Hull City manager Steve Bruce has suggested that his future at the club is not certain despite their promotion back to the Premier League this afternoon.

The Tigers bounced back to the big time courtesy of a 1-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship playoff final, with Mohamed Diame getting the only goal of the game at Wembley.

However, with the club having been up for sale since 2014, Bruce admitted that there is uncertainty regarding the way it is heading and insists that he will need assurances before he commits his future to them.

"I'll sit down with the owners. It's not often you walk away from the Premier League - that's where I want to manage," Bruce told BBC Radio 5 live.

"But I have to be given certain assurances that we're all moving in the right direction. I keep hearing too many stories that there's a takeover imminent. We'll see what develops."

Bruce also confirmed that he had offered to resign following the club's relegation from the top flight last season.

"I did offer, as ultimately I thought we'd failed and I knew how difficult a time it was going to be," he added in the post-match press conference.

"Thankfully, the owner didn't want me to go and I had a long, hard thought about it and thought 'can I repair the damage from relegation?' In that respect, I'm very, very pleased that was my decision."

Meanwhile, beaten Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal acknowledged that Hull deserved their victory.
