Huddersfield Town manager Chris Powell believes that his side caused their own downfall in their loss to Birmingham City this afternoon.
David Cotterill's second-half free kick proved to be the decisive moment as Birmingham grabbed a 1-0 win at the John Smith's Stadium that sees Huddersfield slip to 19th in the Championship table.
"Unfortunately for us the one moment of quality was their goal and that settled it," Powell told reporters after full time. "I'm very disappointed, because that was a game we should have got something done. I thought we had the better chances.
"It looked like a 0-0. The two teams were evenly matched and there wasn't a lot in it. We started off in decent fettle. Grant Holt had a big chance and you're looking for those to go in, even though it was a good save.
"We shot ourselves in the foot for their goal, playing square instead of forward - that led to the concession of the free kick. We've got to stay strong and look forward to a big game at Rotherham, which we want to take something from."
Huddersfield Town resume their campaign when they face Rotherham United at New York Stadium on Boxing Day.
