Fabrizio Ravanelli applies for Hearts job

Former Italy, Middlesbrough and Juventus striker Fabrizio Ravanelli applies for the vacant managerial post at Scottish Premiership side Hearts.

Former Italy striker Fabrizio Ravanelli has applied for the vacant managerial post at Scottish Premiership side Hearts.

The 48-year-old's only previous managerial experience was a five-month stint with French side Ajaccio in 2013, winning just one of his 12 league games in charge.

However, the former Middlesbrough and Juventus man - who won the Champions League and UEFA Cup during his time in Turin - is keen on a return to the dugout having worked as a television pundit in his native Italy since being sacked.

Ravanelli had a short spell in Scottish football with Dundee during his playing career, but will face competition for the job from interim boss Jon Daly.

Daly will oversee the club's opening game of the new league season away to champions Celtic on Saturday after Ian Cathro was sacked just four days before the start of the campaign.
