Steven Pressley "very impressed" by Fleetwood Town showing

Steven Pressley hails his Fleetwood Town players for the way they overcome Shrewsbury Town in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy to build some much-needed momentum.

Fleetwood Town boss Steven Pressley has admitted that he was 'encouraged' by his new side's display against Shrewsbury Town.

The 41-year-old was appointed as the successor to Graham Alexander earlier this week, with the Cod Army struggling in the lower reaches of League One.

A 2-1 victory in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy on Tuesday night has helped build some momentum, though, and Pressley wants to see Fleetwood build on that when they play host to Coventry City on the weekend.

"I was very impressed, in the second half especially," he is quoted as saying by Fleetwood Weekly News. "In the first half we were a little tentative in our play. We looked a team lacking a little bit of confidence.

"I thought our second half performance was excellent and the encouraging thing was we played with a lot of energy. We showed good mobility and a threat beyond that.

"But the most important thing for the team is that we won the game. Winning breeds confidence and confidence breeds better performances. You only get that through winning and that's why the win was vitally important."

Pressley has previously spent time in charge of Falkirk and Coventry, while also managing Hearts on a caretaker basis.
