James McCarthy signs new five-year Everton deal

Everton midfielder James McCarthy signs a new five-year contract at the club, ending speculation of a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Everton midfielder James McCarthy has signed a new five-year contract at the club.

The Republic of Ireland international had been linked with a move away from Goodison Park this summer, with Tottenham Hotspur reported to be the frontrunners for his signature.

However, following reports earlier today that he was to extend his stay at the club, he has indeed committed his future to the Toffees.

The 24-year-old has been a regular fixture in Roberto Martinez's side since arriving from Martinez's former club Wigan Athletic two years ago.
