Phil Jagielka: 'Returning to European competition is our target this season'

Everton captain Phil Jagielka claims that the team's main target is to qualify for a spot in Europe this season.

Everton captain Phil Jagielka has claimed that the team's main target this season is to regain a place in Europe.

The Merseyside outfit competed in the Europa League during the 2014-15 campaign, but missed out on qualifying for the upcoming season after finishing 11th in the Premier League.

Jagielka and his teammates are currently in Singapore to take part in the Barclays Asia Trophy, which also involves Arsenal and Stoke City.

"If you saw us walking around, it's a really happy camp at the moment and we're looking forward to this pre-season ahead," Jagielka told reporters. "I want to get back to playing European football sooner rather than later so that would be have to be the target this season."

Everton will take on newly-promoted side Watford in their opening league game of the season at Goodison Park on August 8.
