Roberto Martinez insists Leighton Baines will be fit for start of season

Everton manager Roberto Martinez confirms that Leighton Baines will be fit for the start of the season, despite missing the club's tour of Asia.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez has insisted that Leighton Baines will be fit to start the season, despite missing the club's pre-season tour of Asia.

The England international, who underwent ankle surgery in May, was not included in the travelling party as he continues to recover.

With just over three weeks to go before the 2015-16 Premier League campaign begins, there have been questions over Baines's fitness, but Martinez confirmed in a press conference in Singapore today that the left-back will be fit come August 8.

Baines made 37 appearances for Everton last season and scored three goals.
