Roberto Martinez backs Joel Robles to perform in penalty shootout

Everton boss Roberto Martinez believes that Joel Robles is more than capable of handling a potential penalty shootout in tonight's FA Cup replay against West Ham United.

Everton manager Roberto Martinez believes that the club will be safe in the hands of goalkeeper Joel Robles should tonight's FA Cup third-round replay be decided by a penalty shootout.

The number two keeper has started three games since Tim Howard suffered an injury during the Toffees' 1-0 defeat to Stoke City on Boxing Day.

"Penalties are one of his strengths," the Liverpool Echo quotes Martinez as saying. "He always practises in training and he has a bit of a knack for those moments. Emotionally he is perfect.

"He is not someone who gets too affected. He doesn't see it as a torrid time. As a goalkeeper sees it as an opportunity to become a hero. I think clearly he is one of those types of players."

Romelu Lukaku earned Everton a replay after scoring a late equaliser in last week's 1-1 draw at Goodison Park.
