Lukaku: 'We can save ourselves if we keep playing as we did against Dynamo Kiev'

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku urges his teammates to keep playing as they did in their 2-1 Europa League win against Dynamo Kiev on Thursday night.

Everton striker Romelu Lukaku has called on his teammates to keep playing as they did against Dynamo Kiev on Thursday night in a bid to save their season.

The Toffees have been struggling in the Premier League in recent months, but are a different proposition in the Europa League, having reached the last 16 of the competition.

In addition, Roberto Martinez's charges are now in a good position to progress to the quarter-finals after beating their Ukrainian opponents 2-1 at Goodison Park, the Belgian striker's late penalty edging his side ahead in the tie.

Lukaku told BBC Sport after the game: "I'm very happy with the team performance. The team reacted well after the first half. We should have maybe scored three goals to be safe but they have top-class players.

"It's up there with my best performances. Now we have to focus on the league as we are not doing too well. Now we are into the last third of season and if we want to save the season we have to keep playing like this."

Everton travel to Ukraine for the second leg of the tie next Thursday.
