Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has backed Frank Lampard to carry on playing for England.
The 36-year-old agreed a move to New York City FC after being released by Chelsea, but he has recently joined the Citizens on a six-month loan deal.
Lampard was part of Roy Hodgson's England squad at this summer's World Cup and Pellegrini believes that he still has a part to play for the national side.
"Frank is a competitive player for our team and for the national team and it depends on his performances," the Daily Star quotes him as saying.
"I don't know what Hodgson will do with the national team but Lampard was part of the squad in the last World Cup.
"If he continues playing here in the way he knows how to do it, I'm sure he will be in the national squad. He's a class player."
Lampard has scored 29 goals in his 106 appearances for England.
